Children’s Health Services in Jerrabomberra

Children's Health in Jerrabomberra

– Supporting Your Child at Every Stage

At The Surgery at Jerra, we offer children’s health services from birth through to adolescence.

Our doctors meet with parents and children to discuss health concerns, development, and routine care.

We listen to your questions and provide evidence-based information.

We work in partnership with parents and carers, providing information, guidance and support as your child grows.

Why Regular Child Health Checks Are Offered

Regular check-ups give you and your doctor a chance to:

  • Review your child’s growth over time
  • Discuss any health concerns early
  • Ask questions about eating, sleeping, behaviour, or development

If you are looking for a children’s doctor, The Surgery at Jerra provides children’s health services in Jerrabomberra for children of all ages, from newborns to teenagers.

Immunisation Services

Vaccination is one way to reduce the risk of certain preventable diseases.

Our practice nurses in Jerrabomberra have undertaken additional training in childhood immunisations and work closely with our GPs to provide:

  • Routine childhood vaccinations (as per the National Immunisation Program)
  • Flu vaccinations for eligible children
  • Catch-up vaccinations for children who may have missed doses

Our doctors and nurses can provide information about the benefits and risks of each vaccine.

You are welcome to ask questions before deciding.

Immunisation also helps reduce the spread of disease within the community.

This can help protect people who are unable to be vaccinated, such as newborns or those with certain medical conditions.

Developmental Checks

Children develop at different rates.

However, some milestones help doctors and parents track progress.

During a child health appointment, you can discuss:

  • Physical growth (height, weight, head circumference in infants)
  • Newborn and infant health checks
  • Feeding and weight gain concerns
  • Growth monitoring
  • Speech and language development
  • Social and emotional development
  • Motor skills (crawling, walking, holding objects, writing)

If you have concerns about your child’s development, our GPs in Jerrabomberra can assess your child and discuss whether any further support or investigation may be helpful.

The doctor may suggest further assessment, ongoing monitoring, or a referral to another health professional.

Common Childhood Topics We Discuss

You do not need a medical problem to book an appointment.

Parents often make appointments to discuss:

  • Feeding difficulties in babies (breastfeeding, bottle feeding, starting solids)
  • Sleep patterns and settling techniques
  • Toilet training
  • Behavioural concerns
  • Anxiety and emotional wellbeing
  • School-related stress
  • Starting school or childcare
  • Eczema, allergies, or frequent colds

Our doctors listen to your concerns and provide information.

They do not tell you what to do. They explain options so you can choose what suits your family.

Where appropriate, our GPs can prepare a Mental Health Care Plan and discuss referral options.

Adolescent Health

As children grow into teenagers, their health needs often change.

Our GPs can provide support with:

  • Mental health and wellbeing
  • School and study-related stress
  • Sleep concerns
  • Skin conditions such as acne
  • Sports injuries
  • Menstrual concerns
  • General health and lifestyle advice

We aim to create a supportive environment where teenagers can discuss their health concerns and learn how to take an active role in their wellbeing.

Specialist Paediatric Care – Dr Kim Bland

Some children may benefit from seeing a paediatrician, a doctor who specialises in child health.

Dr Kim Bland is a paediatrician who consults at The Surgery at Jerra each week.

Dr Bland sees:

  • Babies
  • Children
  • Teenagers up to 16 years of age

How to Access This Service

Dr Bland’s books are currently closed to referrals from outside practices and she is accepting referrals from existing TSAJ patients only.

If your child is an existing patient of The Surgery at Jerra and your GP believes a paediatrician review is appropriate, they can discuss a referral to Dr Bland with you.

Please note that waiting times for paediatric appointments can vary.
