Standard appointments are 10 minutes. Longer consultations are available upon request. Please advise the receptionist if you feel you require a longer appointment. This might be for a complex matter or multiple health issues. After your Medicare rebate, there is usually only a small difference in out-of-pocket expenses.
New patients cannot book online but need to ask for a ‘new patient’ appointment by calling 02 6255 8112.
However, if you have more than one family member needing an appointment, you MUST make more than one appointment. Even if it’s for a similar health issue, we need to allocate enough time for each patient.
Emergency appointments are available every day. We are an appointment-based practice so walk-ins may not be able to be accommodated (excluding a medical emergency).
We have a daily cancellation list which is triaged regularly. This list does not carry over to the next day.
You are welcome to request a specific doctor when you call for your appointment. If your usual GP is not available, all our other doctors can access your medical records and continue your medical care.
Sometimes, there may occasionally be a wait for the doctor of your choice for a non-urgent appointment.
In an emergency, dial 000.
The surgery provides after-hours care via phone and home visits within the local area when appropriate. These must be approved by the doctor. The after-hours contact number is available from a recorded message when you call 6255 8112 out of hours.
The Surgery at Jerra is a Private Billing Practice. The majority of our GPs are not employees but under a Service Agreement, therefore, they have the right to set their own fees.
As of 1 November 2024, our consultation fees will increase to cover the rising cost of running a general practice.
However, there will also be an additional $7 out-of-pocket fee to cover a new tax that the NSW Government has imposed on general practices across the state. This extra cost will only apply to private consultations (those not Bulk-Billed)
This practice collects consultation payments on behalf of our Service Agreed doctors. Revenue NSW is now charging a tax on these payments.
This significant cost is imposed on the practice and not the doctors themselves. Unfortunately, we have no other option to cover this impost and still be a sustainable business.
Standard consultation $110 + $7 surcharge ($42.85 Medicare rebate)
Long consultation $188 + $7 surcharge ($82.90 Medicare rebate)
We share your concerns about the increasing cost of living.
Please lobby your State Member about health care affordability, especially in general practice.
After-hours fees apply to booked consultations after 5pm weekdays and on Saturdays. Therefore, your out-of-pocket expenses may vary.
Concession card holders receive a $10 discount on consultation fees with the doctor between 8am and 6pm Monday to Friday as long as no other discounts are applied.
Other fees may apply for particular services which will be discussed with you. The schedule of fees is available from reception.
Not all consultation fees may attract a Medicare rebate. Some items are private fee only. eg commercial driver’s licenses
All fees, including Worker’s Compensation, are payable at the time of consultation.
We prefer to be a cashless practice where possible. We accept EFTPOS, VISA/Mastercard. A credit card surcharge applies.
We do not accept personal cheques.
There is a $30 script fee in lieu of a consultation. The doctor may need to see you in person before issuing certain scripts. Pleaes use HotDoc online to make your script requests.
A full fee schedule is available from reception.
Yes, in some instances you may be charged a fee for an appointment with one of our practice nurses. Our nurses are trained professionals and play an important role in patient care at TSAJ. Nurse appointments are either co-booked with a doctor or services are performed under the supervision of a doctor on the premises, in case further care is needed. Vaccines may incur a private fee if a patient is not eligible for bulk billing. Wound dressings and other consumables may attract a private fee.
The Medicare rebate does not cover the costs of the nursing time and medical consumables associated with these procedures. Consequently, a non-rebatable facilities fee for medical procedures GPs perform in the treatment room is payable on the day of your procedure. A further fee may be charged is samples are sent to pathology for testing. An invoice will be raised once the results are returned to the doctor. Reception will explain these fees at the time of booking your appointment.
As part of your Patient Information Form, you need to consent to receive SMS reminders which will be sent the day before your appointment. The message will ask you to confirm your booking with a Y. Reply with an N if you cannot make the scheduled time.
If you need to re-book, please call the surgery on 6255 8112.
We kindly ask you to let us know if you are unable to attend your scheduled appointment with the doctor or nurse.
As we are a very busy practice, giving sufficient notice would allow us to fit other patients into that time slot.
A fee applies for people who fail to attend their appointment or do not give adequate notice.
Cancellation or No Show Fees are determined by the booked appointment: $70 Standard, $115 long and $135 when booked with the Doctor and Nurse.
If you are responsible for a family member’s non-attendance, the fee may apply to you.
Thank you for your understanding.
